Hello! I’m Iris
Understanding mental health sometimes can be confusing and stressful, but I also know that there is hope. I love helping people to find their own self and purpose. It is refreshing to know that you can recover from trauma and resolve painful emotions. I can walk you through that process. My passion is using the therapeutic power of play to help children and families.
I have been working in this beautiful field of counseling since 2016. I earned my master’s degree in Marriage and Family Therapy, with emphasis on Play Therapy, from John Brown University, and I’m currently licensed in the state of Arkansas. I also have a bachelor’s degree in Occupational Therapy from University of Puerto Rico, a profession I practiced for 21 years. I have found my joy by blending these two beautiful professions to help children and families to work from their strengths using the therapeutic power of play.
I truly believe what Alan Watts said about play: “The real secret of life is to be completely engaged with what you are doing in the here and now. And instead of calling it work, realize it is play.” My two professions have taught me the “happy talent to know how to play”, so I can support children and families to overcome trauma, learn to express themselves in healthier ways, and discover new positive ways to solve problems.
In my spare time, I enjoy spending time in nature with my husband, celebrating our adult children’s new journeys, and serving in my church community. I love the feeling of my hot cup of coffee in the morning, learning to bake, making new healthy recipes, and taking care of my garden.
